God calls us to serve those less fortunate as we would serve Him. First Church has a wide array of ministries to serve our church and our community. If you are in need of any of the services offered, please contact the church at 301-927-6133 and we will do what we can. If you would like to volunteer your services to help these ministries, again, please contact the church. Volunteers are our best resource!

AARP - Meets the third Thursday of every month at 1:30 PM in Fellowship Hall

African Heritage Group - African church members celebrate and enjoy fellowship

Al-Anon - Families of alcoholics provide mutual support. Fridays at noon in room 201

Angel Tree Project - Mission project for children of prisoners, providing Christmas gifts and parties.

Baby Blanket Project - Collection of hand-made blankets for new mothers around the world

Boy Scouts - Troop 299 meets on Wednesday evenings

Bridging Cultural Gaps - Community book club which discusses racism, justice, and understanding

Chancel Choir - Adult choir meets Thursdays at 7:45 PM in the Choir room

Chancel Concert Series - A varied program of musical entertainment throughout the year

Cherub Choir - Choir for preschool and kindergarten children

Child Enrichment Center (CEC) - Christian daycare for 2-5 year olds. Full or part time, before or after school

Children of Shalom Community Chorus - Choir for 1st through 12th grade children

Christmas in April - Helping the disadvantaged with home fixup - the last Saturday of April

Church Van - Rides to/from worship services and special events at First Church

Communication - Spreading the Good News through video, audio, photography, a newsletter, and the Web

Community Place Cafe - Serves food to the hungry four days a week

Covenant Disciple Groups - Small groups (4-7 people) for discipleship, discussion, and mutual support. Each group meets weekly at a time agreed to by the group

Craft Fair - Held every November, the Craft Fair is an event open to the community where First Church people and organizations make crafts and food to be sold.

Crop Walk - The Crop Walk raises money every year to fight hunger. It is held every May

Disciple Bible Study - A 34-week course of Bible study. There are Bible classes. Disciple I is a prerequisite for the other three. Contact the church for times and classes available.

Family to Family - Spiritual, advocacy, and social work to help the homeless

First Players - First Church's own community theatre group, specializing in musical theatre. Shows are performed every October

Great Decisions - Discussions of international issues. From January to May

Homebound Visitors - People visiting and telephoning our homebound church members

Hospital Visitors - People visiting and telephoning our church members in the hospital

Lay Pastors Ministry - They are God's people caring for God's people - pastoring the flock of God as God intended.

Meals on Wheels - Meals served to the elderly five days a week

Men of First Church - Adult male chorus singing a wide variety of sacred music

Peace Ringers - A handbell choir for 5th-12th graders, including their parents

Representative Payee - Help for seniors who are not able to manage their finances

Safe Havens - A program that houses homeless men for one week in winter at the church

Saturday Mentoring - Helping to mentor/tutor youth church members

Senior Citizens Tax Aid - By appointment only, 1 Feb - 15 April. Call 301-699-2688

Senior Ministries - Day trips, luncheons, and education for seniors

Shalom School - An After-school for the arts that offers classes in a variety of artistic endeavor

Stephen Ministry - Crisis care giving

Sunday School - See the Sunday School schedule for the full range of classes offered

Tutoring Program - Tutoring local students at various schools during the school year

United Gospel Choir - An adult choir dedicated to performing gospel music. Rehearsals are Mondays at 7:30 PM

United Methodist Men - An organization for men dedicated to upholding Methodist ideals

United Methodist Women - An organization for women dedicated to upholding Methodist ideals

Upper Room Fellowship - Intercessory prayer group

Vacation Bible School - A week of Christian teaching and fun for preschool through adult. Held every year during the summer, evening classes

Wesley Ringers - An adult handbell choir
