ADVENT DEVOTIONS

THE THRILL OF HOPE, THE  WEARY WORLD REJOICES

Isaiah 11:1-5 - Uloma Nathan-Igwe

Read: Isaiah 11:1-5

Like many of us who work with bosses. Imagine having a boss who is patient, kind, wise, faithful and always had the employees’ best interest at heart. What if following the directives of this boss leads to more peace than you can think is possible? If you are like me, I would follow this boss. Prophet Isaiah tells of such a boss who will not lord his position over us but the Lord who will die to save us.
Our text  presents us with a Messiah that would come in a very obscure way-a shoot from the stump (vs 1)- signifying His humble beginning,  who judges with righteousness (Isaiah 11:3–4) and eventually restores creation to its original state in the garden of Eden. it also predicts a time when the world will be immersed in the knowledge of God. As the waters cover the sea, so shall the knowledge of God cover the earth. This all-encompassing, inescapable knowledge of God will bring a complete and lasting peace.
In a profoundly awesome humility Jesus came as one of us in order to make us one with Him. Are we learning that His power is perfected in our weakness? With all that is going on in our lives, community and the world today we ought to put our trust in the one who loves and cares for us. Let us not lose focus on the reason for the season -Jesus.

Gracious and eternal father, thank you for your written words, in this time of Advent, may we join our dreams of peace and justice to Yours and rejoice in the hope of our soon coming King- Jesus. Amen.
