ADVENT DEVOTIONS

THE THRILL OF HOPE, THE  WEARY WORLD REJOICES

James 5:9-10 - Mary DeaVone

12/11/2022

Sunday, December 11, 2022
Read: James 5:9-10

In this lesson, we are told not to grumble against one another.  It doesn't profit us anything, but a heart full of resentment and frustration.  We are told not to judge, lest we also will be judged.  Leave that to God, who, in his time will come to judge the good and the wicked.  The righteous one, God, will do a better job than we can.  His reward will be with him.  We are to instead look forward to the glorious coming of the Lord !!

God's word is so reassuring!  As encouragement, look at the history of the prophets of old, recorded as a reminder, in Hebrews 11:4-12, as witness.  Those prophets experienced troubles, trials, etc., but, through their patience and obedience, God delivered them out of all their troubles.  We too are to put our faith in God who alone will deliver us out of all our troubles in his time and in his way.  Waiting on the Lord gives us patience!!!

In the past, I worried and worried about whatever              trial/trouble I was going through at the time...how to fix it, deal with, etc.  But, as I'm growing in the Lord, I see how much better it is when I give my concerns to him and wait, knowing he‘ll come to my rescue.  He brings me out and gives me strength for the next  trial.  His words, promises that he would never leave or forsake me, gives me so much comfort, joy and peace.

There's an old/true song, "Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there. If we trust and never doubt, he will surely bring you out.  Take your burdens to the Lord and leave them there."

Let us wait on the Lord and be of good cheer and he shall strengthen our hearts. Psalm 27:14

Lord God, thank you for your love, grace and mercy.  As we grow closer to you, we become more Christ-like in our walk and talk; learning to love our enemies, and pray for those who despitefully use us.  We will put our faith and trust in you, knowing you never fail us.  We grow stronger and wait patiently for your appearing.   Amen
