ADVENT DEVOTIONS

THE THRILL OF HOPE, THE  WEARY WORLD REJOICES

The Joy of the Lord Comes in the Morning - Olubanke Daka

The Joy of the Lord Comes in the Morning

“Weeping may endure for the night but joy comes in the morning” - this is God’s word.  This is God’s promise to believers.

COVID 19 began so suddenly that the whole world woke up one day and it became a pandemic.  The whole world was involved as it gradually ravaged every nook and corner of the earth.  It was a time of disaster.  We were at war fighting an enemy we could not see.  You only felt it after one had been affected and infected.  I mean when one was in the hospital on a ventilator, if and when it was available or at home locked up in a room by yourself “quarantined” with food served to you on paper plates left in front of the door for you to pick up.

People were dying in hundreds, thousands and millions.  Treatment and a cure were not exactly clear at the time.  The pandemic was no respecter of person - rich, poor, famous, infamous - we were all at our wits end as scientists searched for a cure.

Then we turn to the almighty God, the greatest physician, the greatest comforter, the greatest healer, keeping to his promise as we read in today’s Bible passage.

With the pandemic decreasing, God’s promise is evident as he strengthens the weak hands and makes firm the feeble knees and we the ransomed of the world shall return and come to Zion with singing.

Pandemics and other sicknesses will flee away, sorrow and sighing will be gone and it its place we will have everlasting joy and gladness.  As we celebrate this season of Advent we need to remember that Jesus Christ is the prince of peace and we wait expectantly for his coming.

God we praise your name for bringing us through the pandemic.  We thank you for the gift of your son, Jesus Christ who was born into the world to bring us his peace which passeth all understanding.  In Jesus’ peaceful name we pray.  Amen.
