Read: I Samuel 16:6-13
Our Lenten devotional scripture illustrates the kind of criteria that God uses to choose those who qualify to serve him. While society and the world would use fame, fortune, and success for gratification God chooses the qualities and characteristics of the heart; those who exhibit the characteristics of fruits of the spirit, those who show kindness, have gentleness, faithfulness, goodness and self-control.
Our scripture records that David had a sparkle in his eyes, great enthusiasm indicating that he was acceptable to the spirit of God. God looks at the content of one’s heart and the motivation of one’s actions. Outward appearance and great speech can often times be misleading.
God of mystery and revelation give us wisdom and insight that we may know you in all the ways you appear. Amen
