Read: Genesis 2:15-17
A Journey Back to the Heart of God
Lent is more than a season on the church calendar. It is an invitation - an invitation to slow down, to examine our hearts, and to draw nearer to God. For 40 days, we are reminded of Jesus’ time in the wilderness, where he fasted, prayed, and prepared for his mission.
Lent calls us into that same wilderness experience. It may not be a physical desert, but it is a spiritual one - a place where distractions are stripped away and we are confronted with what truly fills our hearts. What do we rely on? What have we placed before God? What needs to be surrendered?
Fasting during Lent is not simply about giving something up. It is about making room. When we release distractions, habits, or comforts, we create space for prayer, repentance, gratitude, and deeper communion with the Lord. It is a time to realign our lives with God’s will and to remember the sacrifice of Christ.
Lent also reminds us that repentance is not about shame - it is about transformation. God does not expose our weaknesses to condemn us, but to restore us. Like David in Psalm 51, we can boldly ask God to create in us a clean heart. And he is faithful to do just that.
As we walk through this Lenten season, may we:
And as we journey toward the cross, may we never forget that Lent does not end in sorrow - it ends in resurrection hope.
Lord, search my heart and reveal anything that separates me from you. Teach me to surrender what hinders my walk with you. Create in me a clean heart and renew my spirit. As I journey through this Lenten season, draw me closer to the cross and prepare me to celebrate the joy of your resurrection. Amen.

- Love sacrificially
