Read: Psalm 23

The Divine Shepherd

          In this Psalm, the writer and witness of God’s greatest gift to man describes the traits of a divine shepherd:
          provides for my wants/needs;
          leads me to a peaceful lifestyle that reflects God’s
          commandments;
          makes me rest when I am weary;
          restores/heals my body and soul and comforts me when I
          stray from the path of righteousness;
          and walks beside me and gives me courage when I must
          face my enemies alone.

          This summary of traits indicates that God’s son or the divine shepherd is very committed to making each of us good shepherds that God has committee us to becoming in this world so that we may enter and dwell in the eternal world of God.

          Dear Lord, you have shown us the way to life eternal in the psalms and by the acts of your constant presence in all our lives.  Help us, Lord, to be faithful to your commandments and to reflect these traits in our daily lives to all your sheep/people, regardless of ethnicity, age, sex, health, financial status, religion, educational level, political party or any other discriminating factors.  Let our love of you and your flock be our guiding light in this ever-darkening world.  Amen.
