Read: Psalm 91:1-2, 9-16
When I read my Bible, I always look for how the particular passage is relating to me and my experiences. My friends, this word is so timely and it is especially for you, right now. Every day, we are besieged with the news of faithful public servants being fired from their jobs without justification and sweeping devastating decisions being made with no consideration for the consequences of these actions. This creates fear and trepidation even among the most faithful saints among us. Who is going to step in to help us? Who is going to come to our aid and protect us? These are the questions on our minds every day!
Let’s not forget that God is still God and is still in charge! Take courage and solace from this scripture. Let’s start with you. Are you dwelling in the shadow of the most high or do you pop in now or then? The importance of consistency in your walk with God, daily maintenance with prayer, reading the word and meditation is how you dwell in the shadow of the most high. He is our refuge and our fortress. A refuge is defined as a condition of being safe or sheltered from pursuit, danger, or trouble. In the Old Testament, fortresses were built on high ground with thick walls and strong gates to protect cities and territories from enemy attacks. What an assurance! God will keep his promise, but we have to put all of our trust in him despite all of the chaotic circumstances around us.
What happens when we trust God? When life’s circumstance come against us, we can rest assured in the knowledge that when we call on him, God will answer. He will be with us whenever we are in trouble. He didn’t say that we would not ever have trouble, but rather that he will be with us to rescue and protect us and most importantly, to deliver us when we are in trouble. What are the lions and serpents that you are facing in your life? Stand on God’s promise that if you constantly dwell in his shadow, he will be with you, deliver you and honor you.
Heavenly Father, I am so grateful for your promise to be my fortress and refuge when I am attacked by the lion and the serpent. Thank you! Please keep me focused on you and nothing else during these trying times that we are in. Amen.
