Read: Psalm 27:1-5
There’s a practice in the mental health field called 333, that guides people struggling with anxiety, reminding them in times of stress to name three things they can see, hear and touch. In our verse for today, the psalmist David uses the power of prayer and proclamation to declare three things he can trust in, seek after, and hope for:
- You can trust in the light and salvation of God and pray to remain fearless in times of trouble
- You can daily seek after the Lord and the beauty and faithfulness of God to keep you safe by realizing that the living God and God’s Holy temple is within you
- You can hope in the promises of God that can give you an assured confidence, not in yourself but in the steadfastness of the sovereign power of God in Christ Jesus.
Look around you and identify the goodness that you see, identify the encouraging things you hear (whether it’s a singing bird or a kind word); touch the tangible things in your world (whether it’s thru a hug or the fabric of your garment) and give thanks to the Lord who has kept you safe and alive with purpose unto this day.
Gracious and merciful God of all creation, fill us with spirits of hope and gratitude and grant us ever-growing confidence and faith in your grace and loving kindness to strengthen us this and every day. In the precious name of Jesus Christ, amen.
