On October 31, 2024, President Joe Biden made the proclamation that the month of November is National Adoption Month. Originally started in 1995 by former President Bill Clinton, outreach and awareness serves the purpose of shedding light on the need for long-term, permanent, supportive environments for orphans and children in foster care. “Honoring Youth: Strengthening Pathways for Lasting Bonds” is the theme of this year’s national adoption month.
Through Jesus Christ, we are all adopted into God’s family, so it is a privilege for us to support God’s mission of protecting, praying and caring for, and serving the needs of the 'orphan': children and teens among us who need our love, prayers and most of all, permanent stable homes.
God demonstrates throughout scripture that adoption is close to God’s heart (see James 1:27, Deuteronomy 10:18, and Psalm 68:5 to name a few). Take a look at the following facts and figures and find out more here about how you can support foster care and adoption in Prince Georges County, Maryland.
