Read: John 3:17-21
Imagine the shock, the disappointment, the striking rebuke to Nicodemus, Jesus saying that evildoers choose the darkness. So why did this pharisee come to Jesus by night? The object of Christ’s mission was to save, but the issue to those who reject him must be condemnation. Jesus is the only solution for the world and this is only through the cross. Therefore, the cross must be the center and object of our faith. All that Christ did at the cross was to redeem humanity; salvation is never by works but rather by grace through faith. Jesus is the light of the world. Man loves darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil, manifesting their sinful desires by loving darkness which is the consequence of man’s wicked ways resulting in the rejection of Jesus Christ. To truly come to Jesus means to abandon and condemn every evil way. Accepting Christ (the “light”) automatically reveals what is hidden by the darkness. So all who want to do truth, must come to Christ, the only light, then a great change will take place in the believing sinner’s life upon coming to Christ. Righteous deeds will take over evil deeds. Nicodemus' privilege as a Jewish ruler will not matter. His biblical knowledge will not matter. Nothing will matter apart from faith in Jesus. Father, I pray that your people will see and understand the complete work of Christ on the cross so that Christ’s light will lead them through every dark path. In Jesus name. Amen.
