Read: John 3:14-16

This scripture summarizes what is required for us to receive eternal life.  It also expresses the depth of God’s love for the world by sacrificing his one and only son to save it from sin.  In verse 14, Jesus explained that just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so also the son of man must be lifted up.  This indicated that Jesus would be lifted up and die on the cross in order to bring eternal life to all who believe in him.  This was the reason he came down from heaven to earth.

So, let the promise of everlasting life motivate us to be obedient to the teaching of Christ, and moreover, to trust and believe in him.

Dear Lord, grant me the strength to be obedient and live by your word; and to trust and believe in You. Amen.
