Read: I Corinthians 1:18-20
As we journey through this Lenten season, may we reflect on Jesus’s sacrifice through prayer and fasting.
Some people believe the cross is foolishness because they do not understand the Scriptures. They would make fun of the cross and reject the message of the cross as meaningless. Their lack of understanding why Jesus died on the cross for our sins is beyond belief. In the book of Hosea 4:6, God tells us that “My people are destroyed from lack of knowledge.” The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Some people don’t respect God and they live a disobedient life. Salvation is found because Jesus died for us.
The message of the cross to us Christians who believe in Christ's sacrificial work is dynamic and powerful. As Christians, we must be bold in our faith and in our compassionate effort to let people know that Jesus Christ is real. His sacrifice is real and the penalty he endured for our sins on the cross demonstrates his love for us. In Romans 5:8, God shares his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Moreover, we are saved when we believe in Jesus. We are saved daily in our walk with him. His love for us never goes away. He’s not against us, but for us, on our side, and right by our side in our own suffering.
Heavenly Father, we thank you for the cross. We thank you because you loved the world so much and you gave your only begotten son to be our Savior, to die on the cross so that we might live with him. Father, help us to recognize the sacrifice Jesus made for our sins. We also pray for the lost souls who visualize the cross as foolishness. May you grant them the wisdom to know that Jesus is real. in Jesus’ mighty name. Amen!
