Read: Hebrews 5:5-10

This is a wonderful scripture reading, about our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ as high priest.  He did nothing to glorify/bring honor and recognition himself, to become high priest.  God, our heavenly father, validated him as high priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek, who was the king of Salem.  There was no record of Melchizedek's genealogy; parents, birth, or death.  He worshiped God, most high, which was rare in those days.  He was both priest and king.  When Abraham returned from war, he gave Melchizedek a tenth of his tithes.  Melchizedek blessed Abraham, giving him bread and wine.  Melchizedek was a type of Jesus the Christ who gave his precious body and blood to and for the faithful.

The power of Christ's priesthood is perfect and draws us near to God.  His sacrifice is offered once and for all.  The requirement of perfect holiness is met in Christ, the only sinless one.  He is more that a mere man, he is the Son of God.

Almighty God, thank you for your love and kindness.  Thank you for your word which gives us insight into our Lord and Savior, Jesus, who is our high priest.  Help us to be more like him, in our walk and in our talk...loving, compassionate and kind to all mankind, thereby shining light in darkness.  Amen.
